General Information Minimize

Cub Scout Pack 554

General Information

  • Our Chartering Organization is Normandy Elementary School.
  • We are a unit within the Timberline District of the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America
  • We typically meet in the Normandy Elementary School Gym one evening a month (as a pack)
    • Generally, this will be the 2nd Friday of each month at 7:00 PM.
    • At Pack meetings, we welcome family and siblings.
      • The Pack is made up of several Cub Scout Dens or groups of boys of the same grade level and their adult leaders.
      • We are a totally volunteer group run by parents, so parent and family involvement is a necessary component of the organization.
      • The Pack is run by the Pack Committee. The two main leadership positions are:
        • Committee Chair:  Dena Winters:  303-972-6422
        • Cubmaster: Chris Maddera:  303-932-7030
    • Our WEBSITE:  www.Pack554.com Contains the pack calendar, announcements and other information. Since it is a dynamic site, it is updated in a timely fashion.

        Cub Scout Dens:

      • Small groups of boys at the same rank in scouting that meet together 2 -3 additional times per month to work on various skills, projects, field trips, and fun activities.
      • The Cub Scout ranks begin on June 1st, the summer prior to that grade level in school (so, for example, when your son completes Kindergarten in May, he can join as a Tiger Cub at the start of Summer in June).
        • Tiger Cubs:  1st grade, Adult partner program (Adult partner is required at all meetings)
        • Bobcats:  All scouts must complete the Bobcat program before they can earn any other rank.
        • Wolf:  2nd grade
        • Bear:  3rd grade
        • Webelos:  4th and half way through 5th grade
        • Boys can “Crossover” into Boy Scouting in Jan/Feb of their 5th grade year.

      Fees*:

      • For new Tiger Cubs:  $36.00 will cover the semi-prorated dues from June until January.  For those starting in fall, the dues are $25.  This is dues for a partial year. We'll collect dues again in January from the whole Pack which covers your Cub Scout for a full year. The yearly dues are $50.  A subscription to Boy's Life magazine is an additional $12 per year.
      • The dues pay for the Pinewood Derby kits, Pinewood Derby track rental, school usage fees, awards, and help pay for special pack programs - $10 of each boy's dues goes to Boys Scouts of America, and most of that goes towards insurance.
      • Boy’s Life subscription costs $12 (and the kids actually read it!)
      • Fees can be paid by check, payable to “Pack 554”.
      • Pack t-shirts are our official Class B uniform.  They are optional and are available for family members as well as the Scouts.  Current price is $8 per shirt.  Information on shirts is available through den leaders or committee members.  Pack t-shirts are fine for summer events and many den activities.
      • Class A Uniforms – for Pack Meetings:  Blue shirt: $22.95, neckerchief: $5.10, Tie slide: $2.40, Handbook:  $4.25 for Tiger Handbook, $6.95 each for Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Handbooks.
      • Standard Pack dues (from January to January) $50.00
      • Additional fees are also generally collected separately within your Scout's Den. These fees are used to cover the cost of supplies your Cub will use during Den activities, to pay for the use of the school for den meetings, or for special field trip fees.
      • Compared with the costs of other extracurricular activities, Cub Scouts is truly a bargain.

*and of course, the usual disclaimer ... Fees are subject to change.
